Installing a Bosch Washing Machine: Setup Steps + the First “Clean” Wash Program

How to Install a Bosch Washing Machine

Most Bosch installation problems don’t look like installation problems. They look like: shaking, walking, loud spin, leaks, or “why is it not draining?”

Here’s the clean setup path Bosch expects. bosch

Step 1: Remove the transport locks (non-negotiable)

Bosch ships the washer with 4 transport safety bolts on the back. If you run the machine before removing them, vibration and damage risks jump fast.

Bosch’s sequence (simplified):

  1. Pull hose out of holders
  2. Unscrew all 4 transport screws (wrench size 13) and remove
  3. Remove power cord from holder
  4. Remove the 4 sleeves
  5. Insert the 4 cover caps and slide them down

Keep the screws + sleeves — you’ll need them for transport later.

Step 2: Connect the water inlet correctly (and avoid slow leaks)

Connect the water inlet correctly

Bosch notes: tighten inlet connections by hand, avoid unnecessary adapters, and confirm the tap specs.

Connection notes from the manual:

  • Standard tap connection: 3/4″ (26.4 mm)
  • If using 1/2″ (21 mm): install the adapter with sealing washer first
  • Open the tap carefully and check for leaks

Also important: Bosch specifies operation with cold tap water only.

Step 3: Drain hose placement (prevents backflow and pop-offs)

Bosch warns the drain hose is pressurized during pumping and can slip off if not secured.
They also set a key limit: max pumping height 100 cm.

Typical drain setups mentioned:

  • Siphon connection (secure with hose clamp)
  • Sink drain (fix with a hose guide / pipe bracket accessory)
  • Standpipe with rubber sleeve or drain grate (fix with a hose guide)How to Install a Bosch Washing Machine

Step 4: Leveling (the secret “quiet mode”)

If your Bosch is “walking,” it’s usually leveling.

Bosch’s leveling method:

  1. Loosen lock nuts (wrench size 17)
  2. Turn the feet until level (use a spirit level)
  3. Tighten lock nuts against the cabinet while holding the foot

Every foot must stand firmly on the floor.

Step 5: Run the first wash (without laundry) — yes, it’s a setup step

Bosch recommends a first wash without laundry to remove water residues from factory testing.

First-run program Bosch specifies:

  • Set program to Cotton 90°C
  • Add about 1 liter of tap water into compartment II
  • Add washing powder with oxygen bleach into compartment II
  • Use half the usual detergent dose (avoid excess foam)
  • Start the program; display will show remaining time; end shows “End”

Two small settings that help in real life

  • SpeedPerfect: reduces program duration (energy use increases, wash result not reduced).
  • Child lock: hold the two child-lock buttons for ~3 seconds to toggle.
